Google Health syncs with Health Connect so you can share data between the Google Health app and other third-party applications and services connected to Health Connect. This connection helps you bring together all your health and fitness data in Google Health even if you use other health apps on your Android device.
Understand Health Connect
Health Connect securely stores your health and fitness data on your Android phone and gives you control over which apps can access it. Once you have connected the Google Health app and Health Connect, you can check data from other apps connected to Health Connect in the Google Health app and share data from Google Health to those other apps. Data from other apps connected to Health Connect synced to the Google Health app is stored in your account and may be used to calculate your Google Health metrics.
Connect the Google Health app to Health Connect
Before you start:
- You need an Android phone running Android 9 or higher. For iPhones, refer to how to connect with Apple Health.
- You must sign in to the Google Health app using an adult Google Account. Learn how to move your Fitbit Account to a Google Account.
To set up Health Connect:
- Open the Google Health app
.
- At the top left, tap Connections
Partner apps.
- Under "Add connections," tap Sync your favorite health apps
Set up.
- Review the on-screen information and tap Accept.
- Tap the data you'd like to sync
Continue.
- If you've selected to share medical records with Google Health, you will see the option to Allow all, Allow select items, or Don't allow. Select if you want Health to access your medical records.
- If you've selected to share fitness and wellness data, you will see the option to Allow all, Allow select items, or Don't allow. Select what data you want to give access.
- Under "Allow additional access for health?" you are asked if you want Google Health to access historic data and data in the background. Select which data types you want to share and tap Allow.
Tip: This will enable Google Health to stay synced to your other apps and give you a richer experience. - After permissions are granted, a confirmation page will appear saying "Google Health is syncing." Tap Done.
The Google Health app will start syncing your most recent data from Health Connect first.
To check if the sync is successful:
- Open the Google Health app
.
- At the top left, tap Connections
Partner apps.
- Under "Settings" tap Manage Health Connect.
- If "Synced just now," “Synced 1 min ago,” or “Synced at XX:XX” appears, it means the sync is successful.
- If “Syncing” appears, it means the data sync between Google and Health Connect is continuing.

Manage Health Connect data permissions
You can control which data types the Google Health app can access in the Google Health app and in Health Connect. Learn how to manage connected apps in Health Connect.
- Open the Google Health app
.
- At the top left, tap Connections
Partner apps.
- All apps connected to your Google Health app appear here.
- Under "Settings" tap Manage Health Connect.
- On the "Health Connect" screen, under "Settings" tap Manage data and access.
- This takes you to the Health Connect settings on your phone.
- Under "Your health apps," tap Health.
- If not present, tap See more health apps
Health.
- If not present, tap See more health apps
Optional steps:
- Under "Permissions," you can select Fitness and wellness, Medical records, or Additional access to choose which data you want to read or write to Health Connect.
- Under "Manage app," you can select See app data to see what data is recorded by the Google Health app, or Remove access for this app to remove permissions and delete data.
Troubleshoot Health Connect data syncing
Important: To make sure that data from Health Connect is up-to-date, update your Google Health app to the latest version.
To check the last time Google Health and Health Connect synced:
- Open the Google Health app
.
- At the top left, tap Connections
Partner apps.
- Under "Settings," tap Manage Health Connect.
- If you want to sync data manually, tap Sync
at the top right.
If you want a certain type of data to sync between Google Health and another app, check the following:
- The third-party app should be allowed to write that data type to Health Connect.
- Check third-party apps connected to Health Connect and make sure their permissions are set correctly as stated above. Learn how to manage connected apps in Health Connect.
- Google Health should be allowed to read that data type from Health Connect.
- Review your permissions in the Health Connect app for Google Health.
If your data is still missing, on your Google Health app, check if Health Connect is still connected. If you see the badges “Update Health Connect” or “Review your permissions,” you may need to follow the steps above to reconnect Google Health with Health Connect.
“Apps available to sync” means there are unconnected apps on your device that can connect to Health Connect and then Google Health, once synced to Health Connect.
When there are apps available to sync, you’ll find a message “Apps available to sync” on the Health Connect settings.
To connect these apps:
- Open the Google Health app
.
- At the top left, tap Connections
Partner apps.
- Under "Settings," tap Manage Health Connect
Set up.
- You’ll be redirected to a list of third-party apps you can connect to Health Connect.
- When prompted, review app permissions, including data types that can be synced into Health Connect.
- Open the Google Health app
.
- At the top left, tap Connections
Partner apps.
- Under “Settings," tap Manage Health Connect.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Disconnect.
- A warning message appears with the title “Disconnect from Health Connect?”
- Review the warning message and tap Disconnect.
- A new message appears with the title "Open Health Connect to finish disconnecting."
- Permissions for Google Health will still exist in Health Connect, unless you turn them off.
- To remove permissions, tap Open settings. You'll be redirected to the Health Connect permissions page.
- Under "Your health apps" tap Health.
- If not present, tap See more health apps

- If not present, tap See more health apps
- Under "Manage app" tap Remove access for this app.
- Read the text under "Remove all permissions?" Choose whether or not to check the box to also delete fitness data and medical records from Google Health in Health Connect.
- Tap Remove all.
After disconnecting the apps, going to Connections
Partner apps, you will not find Health Connect under “Add connections.” Instead, you will see "Sync your favorite health apps."

Data synced from Health Connect is displayed and used across the Google Health app. Check relevant metrics such as steps or heart rate that would incorporate this data. Tapping a metric often gives more detailed information and historical data.
Tip: You can find all your data on the Health tab in the Google Health app.
If you want to check if a specific data type syncs to Google Health app through Health Connect:
- Go to the metric page you’re interested in.
- At the top left, tap More
View sources.
This will reveal all the sources you get that particular data type from, including third-party apps that are connected through Health Connect.
- Open the Google Health app
.
- At the top left, tap Connections
Partner apps.
- Under “Connected,” find the apps with the text “via Health Connect.”
To sync Google Health data to another app through Health Connect, make sure that:
- Google Health is allowed to write the data type you want to share to Health Connect
- The third-party app is allowed to read the same data type
