Use auto-tagging for Shopping products

For creators in the Youtube Affiliate program, auto-tagging automatically identifies products in your videos and tags them on your behalf.

Opting into auto-tagging also gives you access to these features:

  • Automatic timestamps identifies where in a video a tagged product is referenced and creates a timestamp.
  • Link-based detection converts description URLs from participating sellers into tags.
Note: A basic version of auto-tagging is launched globally. Advanced AI-powered product detection is rapidly improving and rolling out over time. You will start receiving notifications about auto-tags when it’s available in your country.

Understand product stickers for Shorts

When you opt into auto-tagging, our system will automatically place a single product sticker on your Shorts. This happens when products are tagged manually or through the automated system.

These stickers allow your audience to easily buy products that are featured in your videos. A few things to note:

  • Placement: Auto-tagged stickers appear in a default spot.
  • Customization: You can adjust the size and position of these stickers in the YouTube mobile app.

How auto-tagging works

Auto-tagging makes it easier to tag products in your content for your audience. You will receive a YouTube Studio notification when auto-tags are applied to any new videos.

The auto-tagging system uses an AI model to scan your uploaded videos, analyze data like the video’s title, description, and captions, and automatically tag products from our YouTube Affiliate product catalog. This system uses video descriptions and titles to offer product search suggestions.

The auto-tagging system may occasionally make mistakes. Manually review auto-tags on your content to make sure tags are accurate. You can always manage tags in YouTube Studio or turn off auto-tagging for your video at any time.
