Won’t Dems have a better chance of winning the Maine senate seat if Platner is out of the race? They have more than three months to reorganize.

RIP MLB stalwart southpaw Al Holland, 73. Born in Roanoke, he was All-State in high school. He was a standout at North Carolina A&T State University, leading the nation in strikeouts as a freshman and posting a microscopic 0.26 ERA his senior year. He is a member of the College Baseball Hall of Fame. Pittsburgh selected him in the 4th round of the 1975 draft. He played ten seasons in the big leagues for five different teams. In 1983 with the Phillies he had 25 saves and a 2.26 ERA, and won the NL Rolaids Relief Man of the Year Award. He was outstanding in the post season, recording two saves in the NLCS vs the Dodgers, and one in the World Series loss to the Orioles. He was an All-Star in ’84, a year he saved 29 games. He also had stints with the Giants, Angels and Yankees. Overall he had a record of 34–30, 78 saves and an ERA of 2.98. Married 50 years, he was a father of three. Awesome, Sir.
