Why Experienced Java Developers are Immune to Layoffs
What keeps us Java developers floating among layoffs
“You’re probably going to need to transition to Python in the future” — my boss when I started work in 2021.
Years have passed, layoffs came, and I haven’t changed my tech stack. Nor did I get fired.
What’s the sentiment among Java developers around layoffs? Do they fear of getting fired? Should you even fear getting fired?
Here’s why you won’t get fired even in these days of uncertainty.
Java is used in stable projects
I’ve heard of one client in my company who disliked Java.
For no apparent reason. They moved to Python and their stock crashed some time later. Not that this had anything to do with the crash, but still why the sudden change to another stack?
Java is used within stable projects so there will always be work for Java developers.
Even though Python is hot nowadays, Java still holds its spot pretty well. Hence there will always be a project for Java developers. For good Python developers as well, but Java feels more stable.
