Life Is Not a Straight Line. It Is a Walk Through the Seasons
Most of us carry a quiet picture in our minds. Life is a straight road. We are born, we grow stronger, we reach our peak, and then we slowly lose our energy, our youth, and our shine. The road ends, and that’s it.
If this is how you see life, every hard moment feels like a failure. A bad year feels like going backwards. Getting tired feels like falling behind. Getting older feels like losing.
But what if the picture is wrong?
A Path Through the Woods
In her book Wintering, Katherine May describes life in a different way. She says life is not a straight march from birth to death. It is more like a path that winds through the woods. There are seasons when we bloom, and there are seasons when our leaves fall, and we feel bare. And given time, the leaves grow back.
I love this picture because it feels true. Think about your own life. Were there times when everything flowed, and times when everything felt heavy? Did the heavy times last forever? Or did something slowly begin to grow again?
