Layoff Tracker — Recent Layoffs by Company or Sector
Know who's cutting jobs before your competitor's SDR does. Give this Actor a list of company names or sectors and it returns the recent layoff-news coverage on each — headline, link, publish date and source — straight from Google News, no login and no scraping of paywalled trackers.
What you get
- A layoff signal, not a guess. Sourced headlines — title, link, publish date, outlet — not just a bare mention count.
- A buying and recruiting signal in one feed. A company that just cut jobs either needs new tools/vendors or has talent freshly on the market; sales and recruiting teams read the same rows for different reasons.
- Search by company name (
"Google") or a whole sector ("fintech","AI") — several queries in the same run. - A rolled-up
mentionCountand a one-line human-readablesummaryper query. - Lookback window you control, 1–365 days.
- Runs on Apify: schedule it, monitor it, call it from the API or the MCP server, export to JSON, CSV or Excel, or push results straight into your own pipeline.
How to run it
- Click Try for free — no card needed on the free plan.
- Paste company names or sectors into Companies or sectors, one per line — e.g.
Google, fintech. - Hit Start and pull the mentions from the dataset (UI, API or webhook).
Pricing
Pay-per-event: $0.005 per run start + $0.004 per result. No monthly seat. 100 results cost about $0.41; 1,000 results about $4.01.
A query with no layoff mentions in the window still returns a row saying so — and is not charged. You only pay for a query that actually surfaces news.
Input
| Field | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
queries | yes | Company names or sectors, one per row. Up to 25 per run. |

{"queries": ["tech", "fintech"]}
Output
One row per query. This is a real row from a real run, trimmed only where the list of matched headlines repeats:

FAQ / Limitations
Does it need an API key or login? No — Google News RSS is public and keyless.
How fresh is the data? As fresh as Google News' index — typically minutes to hours behind publication.
Why not layoffs.fyi directly? Its public site has no stable JSON API; the numbers live inside an embedded Airtable web app with no documented feed. News coverage is a more durable, sourced signal to build on.
Can I call it from an AI agent? Yes — it's a standard Apify Actor, callable via the Apify API or the Apify MCP server.
What this is NOT. It does not confirm exact headcount numbers or verify an unconfirmed rumor — it surfaces news coverage that mentions layoffs for your query. Always check the linked article for the real figure and source.
