I have a confession to make. I don’t particularly enjoy sharing food.

Whenever I go out with friends and someone suggests ordering a few dishes for everyone to share, I immediately regret not having eaten something before leaving the house.

It always sounds like such a wonderful idea to everyone else. We can order more dishes! We can try a little of everything! And before I can even consider suggesting that we order separately, half the table is already enthusiastically agreeing.

So I smile and nod along, because apparently I’m the only person at the table who would rather have an entire plate of food to herself.

I know. How selfish of me.

But here’s the thing. When I look at a menu, I usually know what I want. Sometimes it takes me a while to decide, but once I’ve made my choice, I want to eat that particular dish. The whole thing, preferably. I don’t need five other dishes arriving at the table just so I can have two spoonfuls of each.

And I certainly don’t enjoy having to think about how much I’m allowed to eat.
