Northern cardinals are a classic bird. Adorned with bright red feathers, they can be spotted in many different kinds of forests, from deciduous to coniferous woodlands.

Cardinals spawn in most forests. Any biome tagged with "#c:is_forest", "#minecraft:is_forest", "c:is_tree_coniferous", etc. will spawn them.

Like the other ambient birds, cardinals spawn in a 96 block radius around the player, and despawn when they are more than 96 blocks away. Being a passerine bird, cardinals spawn on blocks included within the tag tags/block/passerines_spawnable_on.json, or occasionally in midair.

Cardinals will perch on trees whenever they can, and sometimes fly between them. When approached by players or birds of prey, they will try to avoid them by walking or flying away. Cardinals will pick up any dropped seeds on the ground and eat them. However, if the player is standing too close to the food, it won't try to fly towards it.
