Macaw
Macaws are tameable mobs found in ---. Macaws have special imitation abilities, allowing them to repeat words in chat and the names of nearby items dropped by their owner. They can perch on the player's head.
---
When a Macaw is killed, it drops:
- 1-2 Feathers. The maximum is increased by 1 per level of Looting, for a range of 1–5 with Looting III.
- 1 Black Wool, if the Macaw has an eyepatch.
- 1-3 Experience when killed by a player or tamed wolf.
Macaws are passive. They can fly, and usually fly upward if struck. They fly under normal conditions, but they can 'tire' and return to the ground. When in water, a macaw swims by flapping its wings.
Like chickens, macaws flap their wings and fall slowly, preventing fall damage.
Macaws can be tamed by feeding them with melon slices, apples, potatoes, beetroot, carrots, melon seeds, pumpkin seeds, wheat seeds, or beetroot seeds, with a ⅕ chance of success. Once tamed, interacting with a macaw makes it sit down and stand up.
Like tamed wolves and cats, a tamed macaw follows the player unless told to sit, and may teleport if there is a sufficient distance between them and the player. Like all tamed animals upon death, a death message is displayed to its owner.
Unlike most animals, macaws have no baby form, and cannot be bred.
A tamed macaw on the ground can be made to perch on its player's head by moving through the macaw. On its own, a tamed macaw can also fly to and perch on the player's head, unless it has been told to sit. A player can have one macaw on their head at a time.
A macaw dismounts its player when the player presses shift + right click.
Macaws on a head always look in the same direction that the player's head is looking.
A macaw on a head cannot take any damage, but may get hurt as soon as it dismounts, such as when dismounting a player submerged in lava.
---
Macaws have 4 variants; blue and gold, scarlet, hyacinth, and green. These are based off of real-life macaw species. There are no functional differences between the variants.
If the player uses a black wool on a macaw, the macaw will gain an eyepatch, and the wool item will be consumed. This eyepatch can be removed and the wool refunded if the player uses shears on the macaw.
