Compatibility
For the 1.20.1 version of Simple Clouds, it is highly recommended to use Embeddium for an extra performance boost. For 1.21+, please use Sodium.
Please do not use OptiFine. OptiFine is NOT compatible, and compatibility will not be made to work with it. Please instead use Sodium/Embeddium and the various suite of mods offered that bring back OptiFine features.
Simple Clouds has very bare-bones compatibility with Oculus/Iris. While the clouds render with shaders enabled, please be aware they are not affected by effects implemented by shaders, such as custom lightning and shadows. Compatibility may be looked into for the future.
Shaders are not supported when using Distant Horizons.
As of the 0.7 release, Simple Clouds is compatible with Distant Horizons, however not with shader mods like Oculus/Iris. The game will not launch and you will receive an error screen. Shader support is something for later down the line.
In the 1.21.1 0.6.3 version of Simple Clouds, the Create mod can cause the clouds to render strangely. Use /flywheel backend flywheel:off to fix this temporarily. This issue is fixed in the 0.7 version of Simple Clouds.
Simple Clouds does not have integrated compatibility with Serene Seasons yet.
Simple Clouds is compatible with Pretty/Particle Rain as of version 0.7.2.
Since Simple Clouds uses compute shaders, your GPU must support OpenGL 4.3 or above. Most GPUs support 4.3 but it doesn’t necessarily mean it can run Simple Clouds efficiently.
MacOS does not support Simple Clouds, as graphic adapters are stuck on OpenGL 4.1. See note below.
If you’re having issues with Simple Clouds loading, please open an issue.
Mods replacing the rendering backend with Vulkan are currently not compatible.
Intel® (U)HD Graphics chips may fail to load Simple Clouds due to (what I assume are) driver bugs. Older driver versions may work, but please be aware that performance may not be optimal.
Some AMD GPU drivers may cause half the sky to render black, clouds to disappear, and/or something similar. A fix for some is downgrading drivers.
While most AMD GPUs should work, certain system configurations can cause issues, which are not fully studied yet.
MacOS does not support OpenGL 4.3+, and so it is incompatible with Simple Clouds. Please see this issue for more information: https://github.com/nonamecrackers2/simple-clouds/issues/14
Block of Sky is not compatible with Simple Clouds.
