I just got a random popup "You reached your monthly completion limit" when I opened up my IDE (WebStorm). Also happens on RustRover, so presumably all IntelliJ IDEs.

I am using Copilot Pro. Everything works fine, but this seems to be a bug.

Hi @jagerman777hx , you will need to enable Copilot Pro by visiting the Copilot for Students/Teachers sign up link. You may need to close VS Code and reopen it after making that change.

How do I disable this? I managed to remove the Home Screen Copilot prompt bar thankfully but I can’t remove the Copilot Free add-on from my GH settings anywhere.

I did not start using copilot, as such, I am unable to remove the /Home Screen crapware/.

Same as Green-Sky and karwa. Why is it that everyone assumes that we all want generative AI crapware littered throughout the products we use with no way to turn them off? How can we be sure there aren't hidden/unknown side effects? Programming is inherently a deterministic process whereas generative AI is inherently nondeterministic. I really don't want it anywhere near my code.

At this time, there isn’t a way to disable Copilot Free in your account, as it is now integrated into the overall GitHub experience. However, if you prefer, you can turn off the dashboard entry point in the Copilot settings.

Already knew about the dashboard stuff that lets you get rid of the copilot search box, I literally mentioned that in my comment. You guys better add an option for users to disable this entirely and let us 'un-integrate' this crap or else.

Me too. I got an email with a subject of "You have free access to GitHub Copilot" that said in the body "Access to GitHub Copilot is now included with your GitHub account."

The green "Start using Copilot" button had a link to sendgrid.net, with a long ecoded string that didn't visibly contain my GH username. Gmail says the email was signed by "github.com" so I believe it's legit. But when I get to "https://github.com/github-copilot/signup" it says "Oops, something went wrong Copilot is unavailable to you at this time." with an error message of "Trilogy::ProtocolError: 1062: Duplicate entry 'xxxxxx' for key 'copilot_limited_users.index_copilot_limited_users_on_user_id' (trilogy_query_recv)".

(I redacted the key number, in case that's sensitive.)

I also guess that maybe accounts that received the email were already enrolled so I installed the Github Copilot VSCode extension and clicked the "Start Free Trial" button displayed initially in the extension and was taken to the same error message the email took me to....

Hi @wintorez As part of the rollout of Copilot Free some customers with previous trials or subscriptions received incorrect warnings/messages when attempting to sign up.

These should now be resolved as we've deplyoyed some fixes. Please let us know if there's any outstanding issues, and sorry for the trouble.

I didn't even ask or consent to the addition to Copilot to my account. They could have at least gave me a pop up that says "Hey, GitHub Copilot is available for your account. Would you like to enable it?" rather than force it down everyone's throat.

GitHub, please don't force features and instead gain written consent to enable them.

In this case, I would think your prompts are used as training data for OpenAI. AI also uses insane amounts of power, if you care about that. As for privacy, I don't think it's any worse than using VSCode and GitHub in the first place. It's all Microsoft.

Copilot Free has the following limitations:

• Code completions are limited to 2000 completions per month, whereas it's unlimited for Copilot Pro
• Copilot Chat is limited to 50 chat messages per month, whereas it's unlimited for Copilot Pro. This limit includes both standard chats and multi-file editing chats in VS Code and Visual Studio.

When you reach these limits, you can upgrade to Copilot Pro to continue using Copilot. You can refer this comparison for detailed difference between the different tiers.

Hi again! I encountered to a very annoying bug when using Copilot's Inline Suggestions. When I tell something to Copilot, It will mess up with code's formatting. For example, duplicates of a function, removal of a line, removal of semi colon or curly brackets, putting a piece of code in another line instead of the line that it should be and...

Copilot uses the surrounding code to predict suggestions, but sometimes it misunderstands the intent, leading to unnecessary changes. For example your function is partially written, it may try to complete it in a way that conflicts with your existing code.

Could this please be implemented as soon as possible?
If I may suggest something, a rollback of the code to before the first iteration of "CoPilot" would be great.
