Trending tab #31644

I just got the message: This tab is my default page to access GitHub. I go there every day to discover new projects. I'm flabbergasted by that decision... |

100% for me too. I use it everyday to discover new interesting projects |
This is not a good decision. The trending tab is one of the few reasons I enjoy using Github. |
This is literally single tab I visit regularly outside of repositories. |
Half of the repos on my Starred list are projects I found while lurking the Trending tab. Please don't get rid of the Trending tab 😭 |
Clearly, just #WTF. I think this is not due to low usage, this is because they prefer the shitty "explore" that includes ads, events, sponsored content, etc. |
I love this tool - heartbreaking to see this go away! |
Well |
That's insane. Everybody who is truly interested in open source use this page very often. |
This is a really bad decision. Just leave it as is, we don't need fancy features, we just want a simple way to discover new and awesome projects. |
The trending tab is my browser startup page; any alternatives, please? |
God it would so nice is github was community driven and freely opensource |
This page is my gateway to many of the awesome projects on this site. It's one of the main reasons that I visit this site every day. Please don't remove it |
I use trending tab for finding helpful package, this is one of the GitHub feature. Please don't do this. |
This decision must be from a manager who doesn't even use github on a daily basis. Trending is a developers gateway to find amazing as well as up-and-coming projects. I also agree, most of the starred projects I have on my account was found through the trending page. Without trending I wouldn't even have found all the "awesome" repos which have such a valuable source of information. |
If GitHub deprecates "Trending" tab because of low usage, What are high usage tabs ? "For you" can not replace Trending tab, don't force people to use the new feature by shutting down the good feature. |

The more time passes, the harder it is to reach the Trending tab on Github. With the new UI, there is an additional bottom sidebar button click required to access that tab. Seriously, it would be better to add OSS Insights or the Trending tab as a browser favorite. |

👋 Hello GitHub Community, I've been an active GitHub user, focusing on medical imaging and computer-assisted surgery projects. The Trending tab has been instrumental in my journey, allowing me to discover new projects, tools, and libraries relevant to my field. 1. Feedback1.1. Discovery & Learning: The Trending tab has been a gateway for me to explore innovative projects and learn from the best practices of other developers. 1.2. Collaboration Opportunities: By discovering trending repositories, I've been able to collaborate with like-minded developers and contribute to projects that align with my expertise. 1.3. Community Building: The Trending tab fosters a sense of community, where developers can showcase their work and receive recognition from peers. 2. Suggestions2.1. Personalized Trending: Introduce a feature where the Trending tab can be personalized based on a user's interests, past contributions, and starred repositories. 2.2. Highlighting Academic & Research Projects: Given the increasing intersection of academia and open-source, it would be beneficial to highlight research-based projects on the Trending tab. I genuinely hope the GitHub team reconsiders the decision to deprecate this valuable feature. It's been a cornerstone of my GitHub experience, and I believe many others feel the same. Best regards, |

Trending remains valuable because it surfaces projects that users may not find through search, feeds, or existing networks. For academic and research-oriented developers, especially in areas such as medical imaging and AI-assisted software, it can help discover tools, datasets, libraries, and emerging communities. Rather than deprecating it, I would support improving it with topic-specific filters, personalized interests, and better visibility for research-oriented repositories. |

Hey folks - Martin from GitHub here.
Thanks for all the feedback on the Trending page. Given the feedback here, it’s clear we need to look again at the plan to deprecate this. The team is going to re-evaluate and see if we can come up with some other options. We’ll get back to you before the end of the month. In the meantime we’ll take the deprecation warning off the page until we have a clearer idea of what the long term plan is.
For some background, from all our telemetry, usage of the Trending page has been very low since it was created and usage has stagnated, despite more and more people using GitHub. The number of people starring projects and following or sponsoring developers from …
