[Projects Beta] Sort by "last updated", "created"

The new Projects beta is a fantastic way to consolidate a lot of information but it would be great to be able to have more sort options, such as sorting by the last time an issue was updated, or the date it was created.

Specific use case - I want to have a view for "Recently Completed", which would be the "status = done" (custom field), sort by closed date"

I agree! This feature would also be useful to filter out issues that had gone stale and hadn't been updated in a few months.

Agreed! We are working with projects to collaborate between many teams containing a large number of issues, and it would be very useful to sort by 'last created' or 'last updated' to be able to get visibility on the most active issues.

i see in the recent changelog Number and date type fields now support all existing [GitHub search syntax](https://docs.github.com/en/search-github/getting-started-with-searching-on-github/understanding-the-search-syntax) – including >, >=, <, <=, n..*, *..n and n..n. however it seems this only works for CUSTOM date fields? There's still no way to filter by created or updated?

I too am dying for this. I need to order by this badly in descending fashion so recently updated issues bubble to top so I can see what the team is really actively working on discussing.

Every demo, it's hard to see what was done during the sprint.

Hey folks,

a workaround you can do right now is to add a Created at (or Issue #) column to your project and sort by that.
You need to either populate it by hand, or use a script. If you prefer to do the latter, I got you covered: https://gist.github.com/Ivorforce/05770196cea240282c86c0849507335a

It should also be possible to integrate this into CI to auto-populate this column.

I see I can sort the entire View, but that affects all columns in the project board.

Is there a way to sort just one individual column?

Use case for me would be specifically for a 'Done' column, sorted so that most recently-closed is at the top.

So I don't have to scroll way down to see the last closed Issue.

Unfortunately, you added the ability to sort by these fields, but at the same time you removed the manual sorting option (even though it worked with other fields early). Now there’s no way to sort the column by priority on the board, but you can sort closed items by update/closure time. You fixed some things, but you broke others. It would be more appropriate to have sorting for each column on the board, since there are different standard use cases (priority for new tasks, closure date for old tasks).

Thanks for the feedback! To clarify - per-column sorting (e.g., sorting "Todo" by priority and "Done" by closed date independently) isn't something we previously supported, so this wasn't removed as part of our recent changes. Manual sorting is still available, though it can't be combined with field-based sorting (which has always been the case).

That said, your feature request for per-column sorting makes sense, it's a valid use case. If I'm misunderstanding what you're describing, could you provide a video showing what you're thinking? That would help us better understand the workflow you're looking for.

Even though we're developers, we act like regular customers (we want honey—and we want it spoon-fed, too)...

As for sorting and manual sorting, that's what I thought because I'd previously used sorting by that field, and it also allowed for manual sorting there (and it still works now, so they really didn't break it).

As for sorting, it would be great if the current sorting weren’t applied to the entire board, but rather to each column individually. For example, the “Ready” column should allow for manual priority setting (we’d place the most urgent tasks at the top), while the “Done” column should sort tasks in reverse chronological order by completion date.

If per-column sorting were enabled - I would request we retain the ability to set sort order for the entire board as well. I wouldn't want to be in the position of having to set the sort order for each Kanban column individually.

Guessing this doesn't impact Table or Roadmap views.
