ON THE SPIRIT VINE | A DREAM-TIME JOURNAL VIGNETTE
Keeping a Fruitful Vigilance
At the gate of uncertainty
“Faith means living with uncertainty — feeling your way through life, letting your heart guide you like a lantern in the dark.”— Dan Millman
Although the gate was not locked, many shook it violently as if it were. Its hinges bore the weight of collective suffering, but never once yielded to command.
I remember I stood here once in my naivety, fearing I might have failed you. It was my first time just after dawn, when I wore my vulnerability like fresh bruises in the sky. An apothecary of fruit grew nearby, from the river trees. Each one spoke to a different malaise that scattered like ash in the wind. So many people burning stories they didn’t yet understand.
The unforgettable ache as I listened to the many cries rise then dissolve into a silent slipstream, yearning for a place to belong…yearning for a different story. My heart tore open, all the while I didn’t move not wanting to do wrong. I often think of how patiently you guided me. Wrapped me in humor as your silence led me to believe I had slipped causing irreconcilable damage…yet in my haste I yearned only to offer a seed of hope at the gate. My naivety crushed.
