Here’s How I Can Tell You’re Secretly Using ChatGPT
The biggest giveaways aren’t vocabulary or sentence structure.
I’m the editor for a publication that has over 10,000 followers. And every now and then, I’ll open an article and immediately get the feeling that something about it isn’t quite right.
Not bad, exactly.
Just odd.
The writing is usually fine. And there are no obvious mistakes jumping off the screen at me. If anything, the article can feel a little too polished. However, there’s something that makes accusing someone of writing with AI extremely difficult to prove in this day and age.
AI detectors aren’t reliable ways to prove guilt. Case in point, I pasted the Emancipation Proclamation into one of the most popular ones, which concluded the document was 94% AI-generated. So, unless you want to put on a tin-foil hat and claim Abraham Lincoln was a time-traveler, it’s probably best to avoid relying on AI detection software as definitive proof somebody secretly outsourced the writing process to a chatbot.
