Want To Write Better In Another Language? Don’t Translate Your Thoughts.
I once spent an hour agonizing over a single word.
It took me the whole morning to write my first story and it was just a 3-minute read. “Whole morning” matters because it’s the only child-free time I have in a day; while my kids are at school.
During these hours I have to do the housekeeping, grocery shopping, cooking, I have to work on my orders, my blog, my website, I am supposed to somehow squeeze an exercising routine too — and because this wasn’t enough already, I decided to start writing.
The math didn’t add up well.
I gave myself some beginner’s grace and thought it would become easier and faster with time.
It didn’t.
I read countless posts from people describing an almost ideal writing process.
“Only 45 focused minutes and publish”, some say, some need just 30, and the ones who’d hacked the game need just 15 minutes to write and hit publish.
Usually sitting at their favorite corner table, of their favorite coffee place, with their laptop in front of them, while it’s raining outside and water runs down the window.
Yeah, I wish.
