The Pretty Privilege Myth and Prejudice Based on Perceived Attractiveness (7)

Because I’m pretty everybody thinks I’m stupid. But it is like a mask and you have to break the mask to show that there is something else behind it. — Monica Belucci on having to work harder because of her looks.

This article will feature multiple accounts shared by people speaking out against the Pretty Privilege Myth. For several years, I’ve collected these comments from various sources. Buzzfeed, YouTube videos (many in my playlists) , Lipstick Alley, Quora, Reddit and other forums concerning the way attractive women are treated:

Many of these voices reinforce my own experiences or other points. Besides misanthropes, this second group of women who speak out about the way they’re treated because of how they look (or people on the outside who notice and validate others who experience these things) have been the most relatable.

Again, we see people who have had their rape and child abuse scoffed at just because they’re good-looking. Yet we are supposed to feel privileged that these horrible people find us attractive? Ha!

I just had one of these psychotic, pretty privilege pushers exemplify that in the comments on my last article. She didn’t even read about my experiences, just came to invalidate me as a person and project her prejudice like clockwork. I hit back because I’m sick of these sociopathic losers, especially the fake, performative ally types.

This content creator, Simone Nicole, speaks more in depth about sexualization and existing in a body that others “die to have”. At the 9:32 mark, she points out that having an automatically sexualized body translates to “consent” in the eyes of many people when it isn’t. They’re just excusing sexual harassment. She ultimately declares that her looks have worked against her and for her (because she is in the public eye).

The last image I shared highlights a woman I’ve wanted to talk about for years because I was appalled at the disproportionate level of hate she got despite not doing anything besides existing as herself. She was silenced when she spoke out, but as the person said, “People like Megan have to keep speaking out.”

This series has been me adding my voice to those of many other women, finally speaking out.

The next several articles will look at famous sexualized, attractive women who have been crucified for existing in the public eye despite doing nothing to earn such irrational hatred.

Preaching to the devil’s disciples. All that is done in the dark will be brought to light for honor is what we do and say when no one is looking.
