I still have so much ahead of me
During the 23 years of my existence, I’ve always felt like time is going so fast. Days change and years pass by before I knew it.
And all of a sudden, I’m already 23.
Ive graduated school, college, been exposed to the working environment, made a lot of friends, lost some too, and constantly discovered things about myselt.
You might think 23 years is such a young age. Even too young to be thinking too much about the future. But somehow, the society, the media — or at least my brain — is trying to convince me that I have to fulfill certain qualities by the time I’m 23. Well, basically, any other ages.
It’s not that I feel old. It just feels like I’m running out of time to complete these “requirements”. Get a stable job, be in a relationship, save enough money for the future, and every other thing you have to do becoming an adult. That’s what scares me the most about getting older.

I used to think that I’ve learned quite a lot in the past 23 years. But apparently, I wasn’t entirely correct. Yes, I’ve learned a lot. But there’s also still so much that I haven’t. I thought getting older only means fewer time, more responsibilities, and endless demand to live up to the society’s expectations. Until I saw someone said that life only gets better after 25.
A strange feeling strucked. That’s odd. I grew up being told that getting older is something I wouldn’t want to look forward to. I grew up being told to focus on making the most of my youth. I grew up being told that at 25, it’ll get harder and you’ll start questioning things in your life. So life getting better after 25 was never a concept to me. A major shift happened and I thought,
Hey… I’m still 23.
I still have 13 years until I reach only half of the average human life expectancy. My frontal lobe isn’t even fully developed yet. I still have plenty of time to figure things out. I still have so much ahead of me.
Welcoming a new age means welcoming a whole year to let yourself discover and be exposed to more, new things. Acquiring new roles. And it’s relieving to know that they’re not always something that I have to worry about. They could also be my new source of happiness, motivation, and learning process.
I hope I’ll always be given the blessing to feel the thrill of waiting for what’s coming next.
