Microsoft SDE Interview Experience 2023
Hey there!
I am Anupriya Verma and I recently cleared Microsoft’s interview rounds for a software engineer role. Having previously worked at Adobe, I seized the opportunity to interview at Microsoft and decided to give it my best shot. :)
I’m here noting down my personal experience, hoping that it may resonate with others and offer valuable insights or guidance in similar situations.
Preparation Roadmap
My preparation included a mix of Data Structure Algorithms and System Design. For DSA I used Leetcode as my practice tool. I hadn’t engaged with DSA for a year, but my foundational concepts were well-established. I simply needed to refresh and sharpen my skills. I prepared consistently for around 2 months and solved few questions daily questions on Leetcode.
System Design was new for me and I wasn’t much confident in it. So, I tried to spend more time on it. Grokking the system design interview book and Gaurav Sen’s youtube playlist on system design helped me clear a lot of concepts related to high level design. For low level design, I referred to a Udemy Course.
Interviews
I underwent a comprehensive interview process consisting approximately 3–4 rounds. The initial stage involved an Online Test Assessment on the Codility platform, including 2 coding problems. After successfully clearing this stage, I received a call from the recruiter about scheduling subsequent interviews within 1–2 weeks. A fixed date was provided, and I was required to be available from 9 am to 6 pm.

On that day I had 3 back to back rounds of virtual interviews. The first round focused on a Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) question, along with discussions about my projects. In the second round, I tackled a low-level design question that required coding, along with explaining class diagrams. The third and final round covered topics like Operating Systems (OS), Object-Oriented Programming (OOPS), C++ concepts, and included some Behavioral questions.

Microsoft Hyderabad Campus
Microsoft’s Hyderabad Campus is not only vast but also stunningly beautiful. With lush greenery, a serene lake, and captivating scenic views, it offers a delightful environment. The campus is equipped with numerous sports facilities, a gym, and various games options. Additionally, there’s a diverse range of food choices available. I absolutely love it!
