Just be
Come as you are.
You must be weary. I can see it in your face. I can hear it in your voice. Tired of life’s many demands. Hollowed out. Burdened by any number of matters that you only know. That nagging doubt. The fear of not quite measuring up. The fear that life will somehow pass you by.
You smile and carry on, keeping up appearances, doing the best you can to keep in step with life’s never ending demands. You’re perpetually busy but never quite finished. Resting, but already busy in your mind. Away, but never quite at home. At home, but never quite at peace. And your feelings seem to get the best of you, every time.
It is a daunting thing to be alive and human.

But what if you could simply be, without anything beyond that? Rest for awhile and be. Instead of being busy or occupied or worried, just be. Because whatever follows after ‘be’ is determined by what precedes it. Simply being is a necessary prerequisite of whatever follows after that.
We plan and do and move and anticipate, but rarely ever do we settle for simply being. Why is that, I wonder? Is it that we feel that simply being isn’t enough, that something needs to be added for our being to have value? Or are we afraid to sit with ourselves, afraid of what will happen when quietude sets in, turning our mind into a reflective surface rather than one that is constantly rippled by never ending waves, lashed by the wind?
Just be.
Let that quietude come and look deep into your mind as you would look into a mirror. It has much to tell you, if only you would just listen. Why is it that we listen to our inner critic that assumes the authority of a prophet with a stentorian voice, yet only spouts half-truths and full lies? Why do we not take the time to hear the gentle whispers of truth?
Our problem is that we have come to believe that we are not enough, that simply being is equal to being incomplete and insufficient. Be this. Be that. But never… be. Simply be. Rest. Recuperate. And you will find that you being you will be enough for now. The rest will follow.
Just be.
