I built a training app for people who feel slightly lost in the gym. Want to test it?

GymBuddy is an Android MVP in pilot. I’m looking for a few gym-goers to check one thing: can the very first generated program earn your trust?

GymBuddy. Structured workouts — without constant second-guessing.

There’s a person in every gym I keep thinking about.

Not a beginner. They know the machines, they can do the exercises. But connecting those exercises into a program that actually goes somewhere — that part never clicks. Tracking progress feels like homework. So they come, do something, see no real change, get bored, and quit. Half a year later they’re back, and the cycle repeats.

I built GymBuddy for that person. And I know how that sounds — it feels like everyone has vibe-coded an app this year and posted “look what I made.” This isn’t that. This is an invitation to help me test it properly.

What GymBuddy does

You tell it your experience, your goal, and how many days a week you can train. It builds a personal strength program. Then it adjusts the next week based on what you actually did — not on what was planned.

There are no miracles inside, and no AI yet — that’s a later stage. The current version is a deliberate MVP with one job: give you a first program that makes sense.

What I’m testing

I’m running a small pilot with one question: is the very first generated program good enough that you’d actually want to follow it?

Before sharing the app I wrote down what a good first week should look like — how complete the onboarding feels, whether the program structure holds up, whether the starting weights are realistic, and whether you’d trust it for another month. Now I need real training weeks to compare against those criteria. Not compliments — data and honest opinions.

Who I’m looking for

A few people at a time, no mass testing. You’re a good fit if you:

  • train in a gym regularly (roughly intermediate: you know the movements, you just don’t love planning);
  • can follow the generated program for about a week — your normal training, just through the app;
  • will answer a short feedback form afterwards (~15 minutes total).

What you get

A free personal program, and an exercise library in English and Russian with technique explained in plain words — useful even if you never install the app.

Honest limitations

It’s an early test build, not a public release. Android only (7.0+), installed as an APK outside the Play Store. No exercise images yet — the library covers technique in text. Sign-up is just an email; no ads, no payments.

On safety: the APK is digitally signed, hosted on GitHub Releases, and the official page publishes a SHA-256 checksum so you can verify the file you downloaded is exactly the one I built. Please download only from the official page.

How to join

Everything lives here: gymbuddy.katethought.xyz — the app description, install steps, and the exercise library.

The pilot runs in small waves. If you’ve read this far and it sounds like you — install it, or just reply here / message me on LinkedIn. I answer everything, including “your starting weights are weird.” Especially that one.
