Gray Zone Warfare Update 0.5 Rogue Ops is Live!
Update 0.5 Rogue Ops is live in Gray Zone Warfare, and it is the biggest shift the game has seen since launch. MADFINGER Games is using this update to move the project out of Pre-Alpha and into Alpha, which makes it a development milestone as much as a content drop. Rogue Ops adds a buildable Hideout, a full crafting system, smuggling work, hunting, three new locations, and a long list of combat improvements.
You are a private military contractor on Lamang. Rogue Ops is about what you are willing to do to get paid.
Build a Hideout and Run Your Own Operation
The Hideout is the centrepiece of this update. It is your own base on Lamang, and you build it out with facilities that each serve a purpose. One of those facilities is a chem lab, where you can produce chemical substances and narcotics. You decide whether those products go to medical buyers or straight to the black market.
This is where crafting enters Gray Zone Warfare for the first time. Instead of every dollar coming from missions and loot runs, the Hideout gives you a way to earn while you are doing other things. MADFINGER has described this as the second of three gameplay loops planned for the game, and the goal behind it is simple. You need money and equipment to eventually push into Ground Zero, and Rogue Ops is how you start building that up.
Smuggling, Hunting, and Three New Places to Explore
Making the product is only half the job. Moving it across Lamang without losing it is the other half, and smuggling runs are now a real part of the game. The same applies to black market technology, which you can transport and sell for serious returns. Hunting has also been added as a new activity, giving you another reason to spend time away from the usual mission routes.
Three new locations arrive with the update. The Radio Observatory, the Asylum, and a military research site near the edge of Ground Zero each bring their own atmosphere, tactical problems, and loot. They also push the story of Lamang forward, which matters for players who have been following the lore since 2024.
What Returning Players Need to Know
Two changes in this update affect existing accounts, and both are worth understanding before you log in.

First, Rogue Ops brings the first soft wipe in the game’s history. Progress is affected, so do not expect your account to look exactly the way you left it. Second, PvE and PvEvP are now fully separated. When you start the update, you choose which server type you want, and that choice cannot be reversed afterwards. Take a moment with it rather than clicking through.
Neither change is a reason to avoid the update. They are simply decisions the studio made to support where the game is heading, and knowing about them beforehand makes the first session far smoother.
Still a Work in Progress, and Honest About It
Gray Zone Warfare has been in Early Access since April 2024, and MADFINGER has been unusually open about how much work is left. By the studio’s own estimate, Rogue Ops puts the game at roughly 30% of its final vision. That means two more major gameplay loops, more regions, and the Ground Zero endgame are all still ahead.
For some players that is exactly the appeal, since you get to watch a sandbox grow and help shape it through feedback. For others it is a reason to wait. Both positions are fair, and the studio’s roadmap gives you enough information to decide which one fits you.
Who Rogue Ops is For
If you already own Gray Zone Warfare, this update is free and it is worth returning for. The Hideout changes the rhythm of the game in a way that patch notes do not fully capture.
If you have been watching from the sidelines, Rogue Ops is a strong place to start. The game now offers far more than firefights and extraction runs, and the new economy gives you a reason to keep playing beyond any single mission. Gray Zone Warfare is available on Gamesporium in several editions, each with different starting equipment and stash space.
