AI Programming Journey - Neovim + LazyVim: The IDE on Your Keyboard
If you use a tool for 8 hours a day, every detail—its startup speed, response latency, keyboard feel, visual comfort—will be magnified infinitely.
That's why, no matter how rich the VSCode plugin ecosystem or how powerful JetBrains is, I still returned to Neovim. Because when it comes to editors, "speed" and "intuitiveness" matter more than any feature.
This article documents my Neovim configuration journey—starting from LazyVim as the baseline framework, to fine-tuning 32 plugins, and finally achieving seamless integration with the terminal.
The Awkwardness of IDEs: Can Do Everything, But Not Fast Enough
I used VSCode and the JetBrains suite for a long time. Both have their merits—VSCode has an unbeatable plugin ecosystem, and JetBrains' refactoring and debugging are second to none. But they all stumble on the same problem:
VSCode: When opening large Java projects, code completion latency can hit 2-3 seconds. Go projects are fine, but once you cross languages (e.g., Java backend + Vue frontend), plugin conflicts, memory spikes, and fan spinning kick in.
JetBrains: The features are indeed the best on earth—but startup takes 30 seconds, indexing 3 minutes, and…
