Even the Biggest AI Skeptics in Coding Are Changing Their Minds. Should You?
Notch, DHH, Linus Torvalds, and others have changed their views on AI-generated code. Here is what changed, what did not, and what it means for anyone who ships software.
For a long time, many respected programmers said AI-written code was not worth the risk. Now several of them are using it every day.
That is a big shift, and it deserves a calm look. This article does not say “AI will take over” and it does not say “AI is useless.” It asks a simpler question: what are experienced developers doing now, and what can we learn from it?
The one idea that matters most: ownership
Before we look at the stories, here is the lens I use for all of them.
You are responsible for what you ship. It does not matter whether you wrote the code by hand, used an autocomplete tool, or let an AI agent write all of it. If paying customers use it, you own it. You should understand it, and you should stay in control of it.
Keep this idea in mind. It explains why some of these stories are encouraging and others are worrying.
