The Mobility Question
Mobility has become one of the main focuses of living today. What was looked at as what would be a boon for city living, that would streamline city living and movement and create a comfortable living space for humans, has become what can be seen as the nightmare of city living today.
The dream over the decades has turned into a nightmare in many major cities, as traffic congestion, inadequate city design, and flaws in the vision that really never took into account the social, economic and political realities to come have replaced the joy of easy and non-time-consuming city travel.

Mobility has also been struck with the reality of inconsistent policies on public transport and the flows of people traveling in and out of the city, overpowering existent city planning. Of course, we must understand that the formula to mobility is complicated by the political and economic decisions that have come to pass in the past decades. The city has also been affected by the build-up of the city into satellite communities that today house large segments of the major city. This in turn has created the commuter that comes in and out the city daily. What was once the hinterland, is now a part of the sprawl of the city.
Solutions are needed to increase public transport in a logical flow that can deal with the movement of people in and out of the city. There has to be an end to stop gaps and the creation of an overall plan that allows for the most efficient movement of people around and in and out of the city.
One will also have to look at the architectural planning for the city of the present and the future, and create comfortable movement and living within and in the hinterland of the city. There is always a profit motive in creating new buildings and transportation solutions, but maybe this should be paralleled with creating cities where people have a sense of belonging that combines public space with solid mobility solutions for human beings.
