Stop saying it’s a “Hidden” Gem

It’s on 36,324 ‘Top Ten’ lists, FFS

I recently made a Facebook post that apparenty confused some people. What I said was —

“IDK, man… it’s just.. when a place gets a couple million foreign visitors a year it kind of irritates me to hear TikBookGramGrll4825 call it a “Hidden Gem””

(Not a Medium member but still want to read this story? Bypass the paywall)

Most people understood what I was getting at but comments also included:

“U want all the city for your self?”

“Its normal thing to have such opinion coz of course people like to vizit our city based on the typical architecture and the style of construction of the buildings. Youre on historic site .”

Not the point. My point is that a lot of people have found it. It’s not ‘Hidden’.

From one of the best movies of all time

People talk about a restaurant being a ‘hidden gem’ and then when you go look, they require reservations be made 3 or more months in advance.

That’s Not ‘Hidden’

Some specific architectural or sculptural element or particular museum is called a ‘hidden gem’ but it you search for “Best things to do in <City>” it’s on 95% of the ‘Top Ten’ lists.
