what a privilege it is to be overwhelmed by the things you once prayed for.

For the longest time, I struggled with the idea of being grateful for pressure. It felt strange to find privilege in exhaustion, especially when all I wanted was a moment to catch my breath. How could I be thankful for something that leaves me feeling overwhelmed, something that sometimes makes me question whether I am doing enough?

But the more I reflect on it, the more I realize that sometimes, the very things weighing us down are proof of how far we have come. The responsibilities that overwhelm us, the expectations we struggle to meet, and the work that leaves us utterly exhausted may be things we once wished to have. They are pieces of a life that once existed only in our hopes, a life we prayed would one day become our reality.

Pressure is a privilege. In a way, it means that there is something at stake, something worth showing up for. It means we have been given the opportunity to prove ourselves, to share what we are capable of, and to contribute something meaningful. It means there is something we care enough about to work for, something worth protecting, and something that asks us to become more than we were before.

There is something humbling about realizing that God has entrusted us with responsibilities we once hoped to be given. He has allowed us to occupy spaces we once only dreamed of, to pursue things we once thought were beyond our reach, and to experience opportunities we could only imagine.

And while these blessings may not always come gently, they remind us that we have been given the chance to grow, to serve, and to become more than we once believed we could be. For that, I think, we have every reason to be thankful.

Maybe this is where gratitude begins: in recognizing that we are tired and overwhelmed because we are capable. We have been given the opportunity to learn, to contribute, to create, and to offer something meaningful through our efforts. The pressure does not always mean we are falling apart.

It is easy to become so consumed by the demands of the present that we forget the longing that brought us here. We forget the days we wished for a chance, the moments we hoped someone would believe in our abilities, and the quiet prayers we made for doors to open. And now that those doors have opened, we find ourselves overwhelmed by what lies behind them.

A strange contradiction — to long for something so deeply, only to discover that having it requires more of us than we imagined. But maybe that, too, is part of becoming. Sometimes, the life we ask for does not arrive gently. Sometimes, it asks us to stretch beyond what we thought we could carry.

Of course, being capable does not mean we must be endlessly available. Being grateful does not mean we have to deny our exhaustion. We are allowed to feel overwhelmed, to need rest, and to admit that some days are harder than others. There is no virtue in pushing ourselves to the point of losing the very people we are working so hard to become. Gratitude should never require us to neglect our own well-being.

Still, I think there is value in pausing, even briefly, to recognize what our exhaustion might be reminding us of. Not every burden is a punishment. Some are reminders that we have been given the chance to do, to become, and to live the things we once longed for.

So when the pressure feels unbearable, I hope we remember that we are not simply tired. We are tired from showing up, from trying, from learning how to carry responsibilities that once seemed beyond our reach. We are tired from growing into the people we once hoped to become. And while we deserve rest from the weight of it all, may we never forget the privilege of having something worth giving our strength to.

When pressure comes, instead of asking, “How can I make this disappear?” perhaps we can ask, “What is this pressure asking me to rise to?” Maybe it is asking us to be more patient, more resilient, or more trusting in the process. Maybe it is reminding us of the strength we have yet to discover within ourselves.

Gratitude does not always have to come with happiness. Sometimes, it is simply realizing that even when we are exhausted, there is still something meaningful about the life we have. The things that take so much out of us today may be things we once hoped for, and we can learn to appreciate them while still allowing ourselves the rest and care we need.

What a privilege it is to be tired, to be exhausted by something you once prayed for. To find yourself overwhelmed by a life you once hoped would be yours.

May we learn to hold both truths gently: that we can be weary of the journey and still be grateful to have made it this far. May we never become so consumed by the weight of our blessings that we forget to recognize them as blessings in the first place.
