In previous articles, we confirmed how to display offers based on product browsing on TrailNest and how to apply promotions and coupons in the cart.

This time, I would like to use the created offers in Marketing Cloud Next emails.

We will create a campaign from the Outbound Engagement component that can be configured on the Offer page and insert the heading and body registered in the Offer Treatment into an email.

How Offers Are Used in Emails This Time

There are two ways to display Offer information in emails.

  • ① Offer Data Provider
Specify a particular Offer Treatment in the data source and insert its content into an email. For example, this is used when sending an email introducing a Tents offer to the target audience.
Note: When personalizing, use “Dynamic Content”. Up to five Offer Data Providers can be used.
  • ② Personalization Recommender Data Provider
Display the offers selected by the Recommender for each customer using a repeater.

In this article, we will use Offer Data Provider. The target offer is Camp Under the Stars Offer, which was created in the previous article.

① Check the Offer Treatment for Email

Open Camp Under the Stars Offer and check TrailNest Tents Email for email.

This time, we will use the following settings.

  • Name: TrailNest Tents Email
  • Channel: Email
  • Output Format: Custom
  • Offer Treatment Code: TN-TENTS-EMAIL
  • Offer Heading: Your Next Campsite Is Calling
  • Offer Body: From quiet lakesides to mountain mornings, make yourself at home outdoors. Save 10% on eligible TrailNest tents.
  • Language: English
  • Call To Action Text: Explore Tents
  • Call To Action URL:

  • Status: None

② Add Outbound Engagement to the Offer

Next, we will create a campaign for email delivery from the Outbound Engagement component.

Creating a campaign for email delivery from the Outbound Engagement component is similar to creating a campaign using Campaign Creation in Agentforce. A campaign is automatically created, and the flow includes part of the email content.

Open Camp Under the Stars Offer, select Edit Page from the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the screen, add a tab named Outbound Engagemenet Tab, and place the Outbound Engagement component there from the component list.

Press enter or click to view image in full size

In the Default Template selection field, select Offer Launch Emails, which we will use this time.

Return to the Offer page, reload the page, and check the component.

Press enter or click to view image in full size

To use the Outbound Engagement component, in addition to Offer Designer, check the view and edit permissions for Outbound Engagement Content Resource (which records “which campaign was created from which offer using which template”).

③ Create a Campaign to Introduce the Offer

Click Start in Outbound Engagement.

Press enter or click to view image in full size

Select Offer Launch Emails as the template and proceed to the next step.

Press enter or click to view image in full size

This time, configure the following settings.

The campaign name will be the campaign name in Marketing Cloud Next.

  • Campaign Name: TrailNest Tents Offer Campaign
  • Type: Email
  • Start Date: Start date of the delivery period for this campaign
  • End Date: End date of the delivery period for this campaign
  • Data Cloud Segment: Any existing segment
Note: This can be changed later.
Press enter or click to view image in full size

Next, configure the information to be used for sending.

  • Sender Email Address: Configured sender email address
  • Communication Subscription: Subscription used for this offer notification
Press enter or click to view image in full size

Once the configuration is complete, a campaign and flow are created. After creation is complete, go to Marketing Cloud Next and open the corresponding campaign.

Press enter or click to view image in full size

④ Open the Created Email

In the flow, open the created email and click Edit.

Press enter or click to view image in full size

An email based on a standard Salesforce template is displayed, so we will change it to our own design.

Press enter or click to view image in full size

First, configure the following settings in the email.

  • Subject: Your Next Campsite Is Calling
  • Preheader: Save 10% on eligible TrailNest tents with your offer code.

Configure the sender, company information, unsubscribe link, and other settings in the same way as for a regular email.

After that, I adjusted the upper and lower sections of the email.

Press enter or click to view image in full size

⑤ Add an Offer Data Provider

In the email editor, add a Data Source from Data Source → Add.

Press enter or click to view image in full size
  • Type: Offer Data Provider
  • Data Source Name: TrailNestTentsEmail
  • Offer: Camp Under the Stars Offer
  • Offer Treatment: TrailNest Tents Email
Press enter or click to view image in full size

After saving, you can select the information from this Treatment in the email merge fields.

⑥ First, Check the Inserted Content

Before creating the design, check whether the four fields can be retrieved correctly.

Temporarily place a text or HTML component and add the following fields from the merge field selection screen.

  • Offer Heading
  • Offer Body
  • Call To Action Text
  • Call To Action URL
Press enter or click to view image in full size

When converted to code view, you can see that the content is as follows.

{{fallback (get (get @root "TrailNestTentsEmail") "OfferHeading") ""}}
{{fallback (get (get @root "TrailNestTentsEmail") "OfferBody") ""}}
{{fallback (get (get @root "TrailNestTentsEmail") "CallToActionText") ""}}
{{fallback (get (get @root "TrailNestTentsEmail") "CallToActionUrl") ""}}

Note: TrailNestTentsEmail is the data provider name.

Save the email, open Preview, specify a test customer, and confirm that the following content is displayed.

  • Your Next Campsite Is Calling
  • The body registered in Offer Treatment
  • Explore Tents
  • URL of the Trail Duo Tent product detail page
Press enter or click to view image in full size

⑦ Create an Offer Card with HTML

Next, we will adjust the inserted content to match the TrailNest design.

Place an HTML component in the email and configure the following HTML.

border="0" bgcolor="#f5f2e9"
style="width:100%;background-color:#f5f2e9;">

What Is Managed Where?

In this configuration, the responsibilities are divided as follows.

  • Heading, body, CTA text, and link destination: Offer Treatment
  • Background color, spacing, font size, and button shape: Email HTML
  • Coupon code TN-TENTS-10: Written directly in the HTML this time

⑧ Check the Preview and Test

Save the email and open Preview again.

Check the following.

  • The heading and body match the content of the Offer Treatment.
  • The button displays Explore Tents.
  • The button links to the Trail Duo Tent product detail page.
  • The coupon code TN-TENTS-10 is displayed.
  • The text and buttons do not overflow horizontally in the mobile display.
Press enter or click to view image in full size

⑨ Check the Flow Settings and Send the Email

Once the email is ready, open the campaign flow.

In this verification, check the following.

  • The delivery target is the intended test customer.
  • The email being used is the one created this time.
  • The sender and subscription settings are correct.
  • The sending timing is configured as intended.
  • If the template includes reminders or similar processing, those processes have also been checked.

After checking, publish the email and activate the flow.

Press enter or click to view image in full size

Check the sent email.

Copy the coupon code and click the Explore Tents link.

Add the tent to the cart and go to the cart page.

Press enter or click to view image in full size

Enter the coupon code and click Apply.

Press enter or click to view image in full size

The discount behavior configured in the previous article was applied. Success!

We have now confirmed the entire process.

About “Select Offers” in the Email Sending Element

The email sending element has a setting called Select Offers.

Press enter or click to view image in full size

The association between the Offer selected here and the email is created in OfferListEmail.

On the other hand, we have already confirmed that even without configuring Select Offers, the Treatment content can be inserted and sent if Offer Data Provider is configured on the email side.

Therefore, the roles confirmed this time can be summarized as follows.

  • Offer Data Provider: Specifies the Offer Treatment content to be inserted into the email.
  • Select Offers: Associates the email with the Offer.

Note: Detailed information about this Select Offers feature is not available.

⑩ Check the Association Between the Email and Offer

To check the association, execute the following SOQL in the Query Editor of the Developer Console.

  • Set Use Tooling API to Off.
SELECT
Id,
OfferId,
Offer.Name,
ListEmailId,
CreatedDate
FROM OfferListEmail
ORDER BY CreatedDate DESC
LIMIT 200

Check the following fields.

  • OfferId / Offer.Name: Associated Offer
  • ListEmailId: Associated email
Press enter or click to view image in full size

This time, when I selected and sent three Offers in another sending test, I confirmed that three Offer associations were created for the same ListEmailId.

What did you think?

In this article, I introduced how to create a Marketing Cloud Next campaign from the Outbound Engagement component and insert the heading, body, and CTA registered in the Offer Treatment into an email.

Note that you do not necessarily need to follow this procedure to use offers in emails. It is also possible to configure an Offer Data Provider in a new email without creating a campaign and send it from a segment flow.

If you only need to insert content into an email and send it, this approach is simpler.

On the other hand, the method introduced this time allows you to automatically generate campaigns and flows starting from the Offer page and access the created campaign.

It is useful to remember this as a way to connect offer management with delivery preparation.

That’s all for this article.
