You can work hard for an entire year and never once write down what you actually want.

It sounds strange, but plenty of us do it.

We show up, put in the hours, and quietly hope someone notices and offers us the thing we never named.

If you’ve ever rehearsed a message to your boss or partner and then deleted it, you already know the feeling.

Learning how to ask for what you wantisn’t really a communication trick. It’s about understanding what happens inside you in the second before you hit send.

Person hesitating to send a message, representing the fear of asking for what you want.

The Good Worker Who Never Asked

Imagine someone who says, near the end of a long year: “I showed up every single day. But I don’t have one scrap of paper with my goals on it.”

That person is a good worker and a poor asker.

Effort is easy to measure and feels safe, but asking is a different skill entirely.
