When the Sky Became My Temple.

There was never a grand turning point, no moment of revelation, when I decided to start worshipping the sky. It wasn’t planned. It wasn’t loud. It just happened.. softly, quietly, like a whisper I didn’t realize I had been listening to all along. Funny thing is, I once tried to be an atheist.

Years ago, I found myself struggling with belief. I was young, surrounded by cultures rich in rituals and stories of gods. Every household, every festival, every silent prayer was soaked in tradition. But somewhere within me, something didn’t sit right. I couldn’t understand why I believed what I did or why I was expected to. There were fears I didn’t choose and customs I never questioned, yet they clung to me.

So, I began to step away. I started practicing Atheism, or at least I told myself I was. No one around me could understand, and no one really supported it either. I did it quietly almost in secrecy at an age where I barely understood what prayer truly meant, or what spirituality was supposed to be.

Growing up amidst exposure to different religions, I eventually reached a point where I didn’t want to tie my spiritual feelings to any religion. I thought the only way to break away from that was to call myself an atheist. But truth be told, I didn’t fully understand what atheism meant either. It just felt like the only escape from the confusion I was drowning in.

So, I stopped following rituals. I distanced myself from religious symbols and customs. Yet, even during those silent years, I found myself praying. Strange, isn’t it? Not to an idol or a divine name, but still… I whispered my thoughts somewhere.

I asked questions to something. I hoped, wished, pleaded. I just didn’t know who or what I was talking to. My prayers were different. No name. No face. No deity. Just silent words and wishes sent out into nothingness. Or so I thought.

It took me years to realize that almost every time I prayed, I was looking up. It was always the sky I turned to. I didn’t plan it. I wasn’t even conscious of it. But in my moments of doubt, fear, hope, or longing, I always looked at the sky as if it were listening. Sometimes, I whispered to it. Other times, I silently cried or complained. And oddly, I felt heard.

The sky became my unspoken companion. I began to see meanings in it. Hurried clouds reminded me that pain is fleeting, that this too shall pass. A sudden beam of sunlight felt like a promise that better days were coming. Sometimes, I saw shapes in the clouds like a dog running, a bird in flight and they sparked emotions within me. I’d tell myself, you are loved, keep moving, something good is on its way.

Maybe it was all in my head. Maybe I was reading what I wanted to see. But I chose to believe it was the universe talking back to me. And that changed everything. The more I prayed to the sky, the deeper my connection with the universe became.

There’s something profound about looking up and letting your thoughts go freely into that open expanse. There are no walls, no boundaries just sky. That openness made my prayers feel limitless, unconfined by fear or formality.

Over time, the act became sacred. Without even realizing it, I had started worshipping the sky. It became my place of manifestation, my source of strength. It was something I could turn to anytime, anywhere. I didn’t need a ritual. I didn’t need any rules. Just a glance upward, and I’d feel connected.

There were days when I’d sit by the window and pour my thoughts out to the sky. I’d ask questions, make wishes, seek clarity. And often, the clouds would shift just in time, the wind would pick up, or the light would change almost as if answering me.

That’s how I began to believe in the universe. In energies. In signs. In something beyond structured religion. The sky gave me clarity. It became the guide I never asked for but always needed. Before stepping into anything unknown or uncertain, I still look up. It feels like someone or something is watching over me and is protecting me.

To others, it might sound silly. But to me, it’s everything.

This practice with the sky became my spiritual anchor. It was raw. Honest. Intimate. It didn’t demand perfection. It only asked for presence.

I’ve started thanking the sky every time something good happens. I speak to it. I practice gratitude with it. It feels like my soul knows, this is where it belongs! And in doing so, I feel closer to the universe than ever before.

I’ve come to believe that this vast blue canvas is not just emptiness, it is energy. It is listening. It is love. The sky has carried my hopes. It has absorbed my tears. It has reflected my dreams and whispered back strength. It’s shown me that even when I feel alone, I am not.

Sometimes, I even wonder if my ancestors once did the same. Maybe I’m unknowingly carrying their legacy forward. Or maybe this is just me, creating a faith that finally feels like home.

All I know is, today, I am a sky believer! I have dreams! I have manifestations! And above all, I have the sky… always with me!
