I Built a Full-Stack AI Chatbot using MERN and TypeScript — What Actually Works in 2026!
Streaming responses, typing, 3 mistakes that lost me time
Last week I integrated an AI chatbot into my MERN application. When I ran it my chatbot completely froze and took 8 seconds to show the first words. To improve this I used streaming and TypeScript to keep everything manageable.
Why this matters
Chatbots have moved from being a “show-off” tool to clients wanting support widgets, in-app co-pilots and documentation assistants. Using a Full-Stack JavaScript solution makes this very easy. Everything is written in one language and uses the same types. From the MongoDB document all the way through to the React.js component. This is one of the biggest Trends & Updates this year. More teams are moving away from having a separate Python AI service and using everything in TypeScript.
Stack Used
- MongoDB — Storing chat data
- Express + Node — Thin API to interact with the model
- React.js (Vite but can be done with Next.js) — UI
- TypeScript — Shared Types
- Tailwind CSS — Styling
- Redux (Redux Toolkit) — Chat State
