When something becomes connected to a person's memory, it can become far more precious than its ordinary value. She loved books. I had always liked books of poetry myself. But seeing her love for books made me grow even more attached to them. One day, one of my classmates mentioned a book to her. She said she wanted to read it too, but she did not have a copy.
I already had that book. My name, was written on it. After much persuasion, my classmate convinced her to take the book. When it reached her, she saw the name. She realized the book was mine. She became upset and returned it. I have kept that book carefully ever since.
For me, the book was no longer simply a book. It had become part of my memories. She often answered my feelings in the same way: "This is not right. This is not the right time. And why are you ruining your life?" How could I explain that I was not measuring this love by profit or loss? For me, it was never a calculation.
