“There is a moment…”
There is a moment when a public responsibility becomes a personal decision.
You put on your shoes. Pick up your keys. Leave something unfinished because you have somewhere to be.
You are going to vote.
The news will still be there afterward. So will the disagreements, the worries, the questions about what comes next. You cannot settle all of them before leaving the house.
But you can decide to take part.
Picture one person at the entrance to a neighborhood polling place. Everyday clothes. An ordinary day with other things demanding attention.
For a moment, they pause.
Then they step inside.
One vote does not guarantee the result you want. The people who cast the other ballots have choices of their own. That is part of what we share: each of us gets to bring our judgment to a decision none of us owns alone.
And sometimes our part begins before we reach the door.
“Do you need a ride?”
