Contemplating The Multiverse
Professor Simon Kluger struggles to make sense of his nightmares.
Looking haggard as though he had been up most of the night, Professor Kluger came into the laboratory at a little after eight o’clock. He had his multiverse seminar at eleven o’clock that morning and hoped to take a short nap on his office sofa before class so that he would be alert when his graduate students arrived. One of his assistants Lee Bowers was working on statistical data at his desk.
“Is everything OK, Professor Kluger?” Lee Bowers asked him. “You look like you haven’t slept again.” “
“It got me thinking, I’ve been contemplating an entirely different scenario than the one I last mentioned to you,” Dr. Kluger proposed. “You know sleep deprivation can produce altered states of consciousness. This scenario has an elegance and simplicity, which I find especially fascinating. Would you mind a brief explanation?”
“Go right ahead,” Lee Bowers answered.
“What if in this other timeline, I went through this train crash and somehow survived and I’m conscious of both outcomes simultaneously. In this timeline, the memory of the other outcome has been reprocessed by my brain into a dream experience.”
