“I have ever found that when I have thought the battle was over and the conquest gained, and so let down my watch, the enemy has risen up and done me the greatest injury. “ — David Brainerd
Poetry…
Leafless branches in the forest breeze,
a barrenness in night’s nightmare —
paddling in polluted streams,
directionless and pulled,
hearing melodies
of affliction,
unsteady —
a stray
soul.
Thoughts…
In our spiritual journey, an enemy exists who studies us, our spiritual practices, and relationships: in marriages, in the family, and at work and play. He knows what generates spiritual strength and momentum and will not tread on us for long when we remain steadfast in where we know our spiritual focus needs to be.
And he certainly understands our weaknesses, which we all have — those moments when we are most vulnerable to his manipulation and incursion.
