17 Years Without a Real Market Crash!
I measured every US stock market crash since 1871. Crashes did not disappear. Somebody keeps cancelling them.
Monday, 9 March 2009. The S&P 500 closes at 676. In seventeen months it has lost more than half its value. People are not asking if the market will recover. They are asking if the banks will still exist on Friday. If you were investing then, you remember the feeling.
A child born that week turns 17 this year. In that child’s whole life, the US stock market has never had a real crash. It has had scares, a few of them terrifying, but every single one ended with the market back at a new high within about two years.
If you started investing at any point since then, you grew up in that same strange season. You learned that every fall is a sale, and that every sale pays off. Maybe you bought in March 2020 and felt like a genius by August. “Buy the dip” stopped sounding like a gamble to you and started sounding like a law of nature.
So is it one? Did someone abolish the crash for good? Or is it still out there, and you just havent met it yet?
