One of the benefits of paid Medium membership is the ability to create new publications. Because most of my stories have not been published elsewhere, I have decided to create a new one, called Data And Beyond:

This publication is aimed to contain selected stories around Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Programming, and Technology topics

With almost all my stories published in Data And Beyond, I also want to extend the publication pool to other interested authors who desire to publish their data-related masterpieces. The goal is to give such authors more visibility, according to Medium recommendation algorithms, and to attract more engaged readers due to more regular publishing of data-related stories.

As of now, I am not inferring any “technical” restrictions on article length, release date, whether it is metered, etc. The only natural restriction comes with the reproducibility of your results. Namely, if your story is about analysing the data, both the data source and end-to-end code used to derive conclusions shown in your article need to be present in a public repository (e.g., your public GitHub repository, Google Colab, or your Kaggle profile) to ensure that interested readers can independently reproduce your findings.

Important: the quality of the stories is an essential criterium for publishing in Data And Beyond. Namely, authors that consistently submit stories that might qualify for Network Distribution (AI slop, NSFW stories, Medium meta, etc.) may be banned for further submissions, and the corresponding stories can be removed from publication.

Note that excellent quality and value for readers are key to your stories proceed further. It’s fine to use AI to prepare the draft as we do use it at our job, so please do not simply add manual mistakes to it so it might formally “pass” an auto detection filter as I am reviewing submissions manually. But also, consider that, when it looks like it is generated by AI, readers do not trust it. This diminishes your story distribution (you might see that already), and also distributions of other D&B stories.

Also note that the paywalled stories with friend links at the beginning will not be accepted, as this is not recommended by Medium, namely: “over-sharing them everywhere can reduce the incentive for readers to buy a paid membership”, see What is a friend link on Medium?. How you can share your paywalled… | by Zulie @ Medium | The Medium Handbook | Medium.

For more details, I refer to the Medium publication best practices and guidelines:

Important: due to Medium publication policy, some of your submissions cannot be published on time, as there is a hard limit of 3 stories scheduled or published per 24 hours:

Please be patient and take this to consideration when submitting your stories.

It is also worth noting that at the moment a couple of authors decided either to withdraw their stories after publication in Data And Beyond, with subsequent submission to other journals, or to un-list them thus making them unavailable for further distribution inside Medium. While generally it is the right of every author to decide what to do with their articles, it is not a recommended way to build their longer relationship with Data And Beyond as publication of your next articles submitted here, as well as distribution of your previous published articles may be affected, too.

I hope this can be useful for you. In case of questions/comments, do not hesitate to write in the comments below or reach me directly through LinkedIn or BlueSky.
