The Sexual Experience That Changed How I Think About Intimacy

Sometimes the biggest lessons from sex have nothing to do with technique.

I used to think intimacy was about skill.

I thought it was about knowing the right angles. The right rhythm. The right words to whisper in the dark. I thought if I could just master the mechanics, I would finally feel connected.

I was wrong.

The most intimate experience of my life had nothing to do with technique. It had nothing to do with stamina or flexibility or knowing where to touch. It had everything to do with being seen.

I was with someone new.

We had been circling each other for weeks. The kind of tension that makes your skin hum. Every touch felt electric. Every glance felt like a promise.

When we finally ended up alone together, I was nervous. Not because I was unsure of him. But because I was unsure of myself. I had spent years performing in bed. I had learned to be what men wanted. I had learned to make sounds at the right moments. I had learned to arch my back and bite my lip and do all the things that made them feel like they were good at sex.

I write about sexuality, relationships, psychology, and the parts of society we don't talk about out loud — unfiltered, personal, and without apology.
