I was in the kitchen, caught up in my routine chores. Nothing else was on my mind — just that I had work to do here, the heat was pressing, and the tasks needed finishing.
I don’t want to spend too much time in the kitchen, because I have other roles to live too.
I was never meant to hold only the weight of being a daughter, or the identity of a sister alone — I also had a seeker to become.
A writer to become.
And a love to embody, one that never leaves my mind, one that remains the most vital thread of my life.
Anyway, I was simply living the role of that daughter. Suddenly, a beautiful hadith touched me right there in the kitchen — it settled into my mind in such a way that I couldn’t stop myself from thinking about it.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
الدُّنْيَا سِجْنُ الْمُؤْمِنِ:
This world is a prison for the believer.
It was such a profoundly moving hadith, one I had never thought about in this way before.
