"All of us are selective sinners. We choose the sins we are comfortable with, and judge others who commit the ones we’re not comfortable with "۔
— Shams Tabrizi

If someone doesn’t pray, doesn’t fast, or hasn’t performed Hajj three times as you have—if the person you know is an adulterer, a gambler, or struggling with alcohol addiction—please don’t fool yourself into thinking you are superior to them.
If their sins are visible—omitting prayer, missing fasts, avoiding Zakat, or giving in to vice—do not declare yourself better simply because you sin differently.

Your sin might be backbiting, usurping someone’s rightful inheritance, hurting someone, disobeying your parents, or ridiculing others. Your sin might be being rude to people simply because you woke up for Tahajjud, or declaring someone beyond redemption because of their past. It might be showing off your affection to your child in front of an orphan, using religion as a tool of extremism to make Deen difficult for others, mocking your friends, or simply considering yourself inherently better than everyone else.
May Allah guide us to be kind and to remain a source of goodness to others. May He protect us from becoming sinners who judge those who merely sin differently.
