The World is Suffering from More
A Film Trailer Made Me Write This Article
On August 10, 1628, thousands of people gathered near Stockholm to watch something extraordinary.
A massive Swedish warship called Vasa was finally ready.
It was supposed to become one of the most powerful warships in the world. It had an enormous number of cannons. It was beautifully decorated. It was huge. It looked powerful.
Basically, everything about it screamed:
MORE.
More weapons.
More power.
More size.
More decoration.
And then the ship started sailing.
About 20 minutes later, it was at the bottom of the sea.
Yes.
The most powerful warship of its time sank on its maiden voyage.
The problem?
Vasa was too tall, too narrow and too heavy above the water.
It had so much built above the waterline compared to what was supporting it underneath that even a light blow of wind could make it unstable. The ship had become so obsessed with becoming more that it forgot something very important. It had to remain useful.
