Introduction

Some cyclists are very sensible; they obey the rules and take care with pedestrians around. Some cyclists don’t and don’t seem to care, either.

We were walking in the park the other day when a father and young son, who was perhaps 10 or 12 years old, stopped at the junction in the main picture on their bikes. Dad asked his son where he could ride his bike.

Son looked at the signs and saw this one in the middle and pointed to that path (below).

Son got it right.

Most cyclists either don’t look, don’t care or don’t notice.

This sign by the middle path is on a low post and is quite small, but definitely shows that both pedestrians and cyclists are allowed down that path, whereas the new green sign with a diagonal bar across it has been placed on the two paths either side.
