Diary of a Bored Author
Day 1: Saturday, 10th December, 7:00 PM
Tonight, I found myself staring at a selfie of me, looking all sun-kissed and peaceful. I looked like someone who had everything figured out.
The funny thing? Behind that picture is an author sitting quietly, wondering why the world seems so uninterested in the stories I have poured my heart into.
Ah, the life of a self-published author. 😂
You spend hours creating characters, building worlds, giving people dreams, fears, flaws, and feelings. You let them live inside your head for so long that they begin to feel like real people. You laugh with them, cry for them, worry about them, and sometimes even argue with them in your imagination.
You give them histories, families, secrets, and voices. You imagine how readers might react to their choices. You wonder whether someone, somewhere, will connect with them as deeply as you have.
Then, one day, you publish their world and wait.
You wait for readers.
You wait for comments.
You wait for someone to say, “Oh my goodness, I did not see that coming!”
But the notifications remain suspiciously quiet.
