5 of Hip-Hop’s Best Storytelling Songs: Da Art of Storytelling
Storytelling allows a rapper to showcase their cleverness in the most direct way. This is a skill that always seems to revamp every generation. A good storytelling song keeps the audience captivated and engaged. The best are hits and rappers perform them at shows while they mainly decided to be listened to and dissected by dedicated fans.
It’s rap at its finest. I’ve compiled a list of great storytelling songs; here are five of them. It will be multiple parts to this series for sure. If your favorite isn’t mentioned, put me on. I’m a massive Hip-Hop fan, but I don’t know every rap song there is.
1. Children’s story- Slick Rick 1988
The OG storytelling joint, one of the main songs that helped shape my love for Hip-Hop. When I tell you my whole family knew all the words to this song. My mother, father, sister and I were literally in the car singing this song in unison like it’s “ the wheels on the bus.” For millennials that grew up on Hip-Hop, It’s like our nursery rhyme.
