The Rust Crates I’m Watching for 2027
AI agents, reflection, embedded databases, zero-copy data, terminal UIs, native applications, ML runtimes, MCP infrastructure, and typed database tooling are producing some of the ecosystem’s most interesting engineering ideas right now.
The Rust crates I find most interesting going into 2027 are not necessarily the newest or most downloaded. I am watching the ones that push Rust into problem spaces where the language’s strengths genuinely change the architecture: long-running AI agents, runtime type inspection, embedded persistence, binary data access, native interfaces, local inference, and database operations checked before deployment.
This is a snapshot from October 2026. Several projects are pre-1.0, release candidates, or moving quickly enough that their APIs may change before 2027. “Watching” does not always mean “ready to standardize across a company.” Sometimes it means the engineering idea is valuable even while the interface is still settling.
