One-on-One Mentoring With The Thoughtful Engineer

I enjoy writing about software engineering, artificial intelligence, and technology. But sometimes, reading an article is only the beginning.

You might understand the general idea behind a machine learning algorithm but struggle with its mathematics. You might know C++ but want to understand how it interacts with the operating system. Or perhaps you’re preparing for a technical interview and want to discuss concepts with someone who has spent decades working in software development.

That is where a personal conversation can make a difference.

I offer one-on-one online teaching and mentoring sessions tailored to your background, interests, and learning goals.

About Me

I’m Kobi Toueg, a Principal Software Engineer with over 25 years of experience in software development, technical leadership, software architecture, and security.

Throughout my career, I have worked across multiple technological domains, including:

  • Software development using C, C++, Python, and other programming languages.
  • Linux, operating systems, networking, and distributed software systems.
  • Database technologies, software security, and secure system architectures.
  • Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and security challenges involving AI agents.
  • Technical leadership, software architecture, project management, and Agile development.

I hold a B.Sc. in Software Engineering from the Technion and an MBA, and I am currently pursuing an M.Sc. in Computer Science at the Open University of Israel, with a focus on artificial intelligence and machine learning.

I am also the author of The Thoughtful Engineer, where I explore technical subjects through detailed explanations, practical examples, and connections between ideas.

My approach to learning is simple: understanding why something works matters as much as knowing how to use it.

What Can We Learn Together?

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

From fundamental algorithms to neural networks and deep learning.

We can explore linear regression, classification, Support Vector Machines, clustering, neural networks, backpropagation, autoencoders, and related mathematics.

Sessions can focus on theoretical understanding, mathematical intuition, or practical implementation using Python and machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch.

C, C++, and Software Engineering

Explore programming concepts, memory management, concurrency, algorithms, data structures, debugging, and software design.

Whether you’re learning C++ or deepening your understanding of how complex software systems are built, we can focus on what matters to you.

Systems Programming

Understand the mechanisms beneath application software: processes, threads, system calls, executable loading, communication, and database systems.

We can also discuss systems architecture, performance, and security considerations.

Software Quality, Architecture, and Security

Topics include software quality models, testing strategies, maintainability, security, software architecture, and engineering trade-offs.

We can use practical examples to understand how engineering decisions affect real software products.

Technical Interview Preparation and Career Discussions

Preparing for a programming or software engineering interview?

We can practice algorithmic questions, discuss system design, review technical concepts, or explore engineering career development.

Having worked as an individual contributor, team leader, product owner, and project manager, I can bring perspectives from several sides of software development.

Step 1: Tell me what you want to learn

Send an email to kobi.thoughtful.engineer@gmail.com.
Describe the topic you want to explore, your current experience level, and what you want to achieve.

Step 2: We agree on the subject scope

I will review your request and confirm whether the subject falls within my expertise. If it does, we will agree on the session’s objectives and the material to cover. If it doesn’t, I’ll let you know upfront.

Step 3: Scheduling

We will coordinate a mutually convenient date and time. Please ensure you have a quiet environment and a reliable internet connection for the session.

Step 4: Payment

Each 60-minute session costs $50 USD. Once we agree on the schedule, I will provide payment instructions to confirm the booking.

Step 5: We Meet Online

We will meet through Google Meet for a 60-minute session, focusing on the topics we agreed upon.

After the session, you can decide whether to continue with additional sessions, explore a different subject, or continue learning independently.

You decide what comes next!

No subscription, no long-term commitment.

Prefer to Learn by Reading? Start Here.

Not everyone needs a personal session.

I started The Thoughtful Engineer to share knowledge and make complex technical ideas more accessible.

The following learning guides organize related articles into structured learning paths.

You can read all articles for free. If you hit a paywall, look for the link at the beginning of the article that lets you read the full article for free, without a subscription.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Under the Hood

A journey from the foundations of artificial intelligence to machine learning algorithms, neural networks, and deep learning.

The series emphasizes mathematical understanding, intuition, and the mechanisms behind modern AI.

Understanding Software Quality

Explore what makes software reliable, secure, maintainable, and fit for purpose.

This series introduces software quality concepts and standards, including ISO 25010 and ISO 25012, with practical examples.

Linux and Systems Programming

Explore the mechanisms that bring software to life, from executable loading to operating system interactions.

I will add additional guides and articles as the publication grows.

From Reading to Understanding

You are welcome to explore the articles, follow the learning guides, and study independently. You are welcome to clap and comment.

But if you reach a point where an explanation isn’t quite enough, or you want to go deeper into a subject, perhaps we can explore it together.

Learning is not about collecting answers. It is about building the understanding needed to find those answers yourself.

Interested in a session?
