Except for the fact that it’s a Midwest winter. FC October Prompts did ask for drama.

Illustration of a silver-haired woman in a pink saree and patterned Kashmiri shawl driving along a winding road through brilliant orange autumn foliage and snowy hills. Musical notes and portraits of two classic Bollywood singers float above the landscape.
ChatGPT used my original photo, gave me a Bollywood glow-up, and decided I should gaze dreamily into the distance. For the record, I was watching the road. The shikwa-s were composing themselves.

What happens when you are on looong drives? Eventually, you ask for songs to keep you awake. Hubby chose Kishore Kumar, the legendary voice behind countless Bollywood hits. And his lovely voice streamed this classic track from the 1975 movie Aandhi (the gold standard for bittersweet, cinematic longing):

Tere bina zindagi se koi shikwa to nahin…
I have no complaint against life, except that you are not in it.

Very lyrical. Very nice. Very emotional. And it was putting me to sleep.

So what do I do? I start thinking of my own shikwa-s (complaints).

For starters, I just came from Durga Puja, where I had to cover my beautiful saree with a nice Kashmiri shawl and still shivered. Especially from the waist down.

Then the next song came on, a fun one: Chandan Sa Badan.

I guess we were done with Kishore Kumar and moving on to Mukesh now, another legendary Bollywood maestro known for his deeply soulful voice.
