Over the past few weeks, Spirit has seemingly been inviting me to take stock of my life’s journey through a series of unexpected challenges. Situations that, in the past, might have sent me on an emotional roller coaster. Almost as though Spirit were asking, “How will you respond this time?”
One example was a massive flood in our home. One corner of the house was quite literally torn apart. Carpet ripped up, industrial fans blaring, sawhorses everywhere, and furniture squeezed into whatever little space remained. There was simply nowhere to move. Eight hours of shop vacuuming, followed by a solid week of carpet cleaning, created an environment that was particularly challenging for someone as hypersensitive to sound as I am.
Yet, rather than becoming overwhelmed or angry, I found myself calmly stepping up and doing what I could within my comfort zone. I don’t mind hard work. I can manage a week of disruption. I have tools to help me cope. I even finished with a sense of gratitude for the “free” use of a carpet vacuum I would otherwise have had to rent!
