Low Battery
My phone entered power-saving mode. Then it started managing my life better than I ever did.
My phone flashed:
Low Battery. 5% Remaining.
At the exact same moment, someone invited me to a two-hour meeting described as a "quick sync."
For the first time in my adult life, I felt understood by a piece of technology. I used to think exhaustion came in waves. Now it feels like a system setting.
At some point, I stopped identifying with successful people and started identifying with my phone at 3%.
Not broken.
Not fine.
Just operating with reduced functionality. Every morning starts with optimism.
Today will be different.
Today I will become the organized, productive adult hidden somewhere inside me. Then I wake up. My energy drops before my feet hit the floor.
Sleep no longer restores anything. It only delays the warning messages.
My phone understands me too well.
At 80% it is social.
At 40% it becomes selective.
At 10% it starts removing features.
