Sync your medical records with the Google Health app

You can connect, check, and track your medical records in the Google Health app. Having your medical records all in one place can make it easier to understand your own health data.

If you have a Google Health Premium subscription and have turned on the Google Health Coach, you can also ask questions about your medical records and get summaries.

Before you begin

Your data & privacy

  • You can manage, export, remove access, or delete your data at any time. Learn how to manage & delete your medical records data in the Google Health app.
  • The Google Health app syncs your data from your healthcare provider, but it doesn’t share data back to that provider. Your official medical records remain with your provider.
  • Google won’t use medical records ingested from your healthcare provider to personalize any offerings for you unless you turn on the Google Health Coach and consent to processing of your health data for personalization by the Google Health Coach.

Requirements

To add your medical records to the Google Health app, you’ll need to:

  • Sign in to the Google Health app with a Google account.
  • Be 18 or older, or the appropriate age in your country.
  • Have medical records with a provider located in the United States.
  • Use an Android phone that runs Android 14 or higher.
  • Sync your own medical records only. You may not sync another person’s records to your Google Health account, or to their own Google Health account on their behalf, even if you manage their health care. Parents may not sync their children’s medical records.

Get started

There are 3 different ways to sync your medical records with the Google Health app. You can set up a direct connection with your healthcare provider, have the app search for your healthcare providers after verifying your identity with CLEAR, or use Health Connect.

  • Directly with your healthcare provider: You choose which providers to add. You’ll need to log in with each provider to set up the connection.
  • Verify with CLEAR: After you verify your identity with CLEAR, Google Health searches for your medical records to sync with the Google Health app.
  • Health Connect (Android only): After setup, Google Health automatically syncs all available medical records from Health Connect. You’ll need to set up Health Connect and review your app permissions so your healthcare provider apps can sync with Health Connect.
Learn how to add medical documents to your personal health record data

You can add medical documents by uploading them directly through Ask Coach. You can also select files which include PDF documents, images, and screenshots from your local device storage or take a photo with your camera.

Once a document is uploaded, the app provides a summary of the content and logs extracted medical record information. For example, you can upload a lab report and have lab values logged in the app, or you can upload vaccine records and have your vaccines logged in the app.
Sync directly from your healthcare provider

Important:

  • Your medical records data may sync to the app through a Google partner. For more information, refer to Sync your medical records with the Fitbit app.
  • Once synced to Google Health, your records are securely stored on Google Health’s servers.
  • When syncing medical records directly, you choose which providers to link and, if permitted by the provider, which data types Google Health can access.

To sync directly with your healthcare provider:

  1. Open the Google Health app
  2. At the top, tap Connections .
  3. If your device is:
    • Android: Tap Partner apps.
    • iOS: Tap Apps and services.
  4. Under “Add connections,” tap Medical records and then Get started.
  5. Select or search for your healthcare provider and add your personal details.
Important: Your personal details are used to match your medical records from your provider and verify your age.
  6. Tap Continue and then Agree and link.
  7. Log in to your provider’s patient portal. Use the password and email or username you typically use to log in with that provider.
  8. After logging in to your provided, you may be asked to confirm your name and date of birth.
  9. Follow the prompts to complete the linking process.
  10. A confirmation page will appear.
  11. Tap Done.

It can take up to a day for Google Health to confirm your medical records. Once that’s done, you’ll receive a notification. The connection to your provider will expire and you’ll need to sign in again to continue syncing.

Verify with CLEAR and automatically search for healthcare providers

Important:

After you verify your identity with CLEAR, the Google Health app will try to locate and sync your medical records data from your past healthcare providers.

  1. Open the Google Health app
  2. At the top, tap Connections .
  3. If your device is:
    • Android: Tap Partner apps.
    • iOS: Tap Apps and services.
  4. Under “Add connections,” tap Medical records and then Get started.
  5. Tap the Quick connect banner and then Continue and then Agree and link.
  6. Verify your identity with CLEAR. You’ll be asked to enter a few basic details like your mobile number, email address, a selfie, and a valid government-issued document like passport or driving license.
Important: If you’ve previously verified your identity with CLEAR, you must use the same email address or mobile number you’ve used previously.
  7. Follow the prompts to complete the linking process.

After you verify your identity, Google Health searches for your past healthcare providers on an ongoing basis. You’ll be notified when a provider is found. You may still need to log in and authenticate with each provider to start syncing your records.

Explore your medical records data

After you sync your health record, Google Health can help you visualize different types of medical records data, including:

  • Allergies
  • Medications
  • Vaccines
  • Lab results
  • Vitals
  • Procedures
  • Pregnancy

  1. Open the Google Health app .
  2. Tap the Health tab .
  3. Under “Medical,” select a category.

Fix issues connecting your medical records

Can’t set up medical record syncing
  1. Check your credentials: Ensure your personal details, username, and password for your healthcare provider's portal are entered correctly.
  2. Change information with your provider: If you’ve recently changed information that your provider has on file, like your first and last name or date of birth, you may need to contact your healthcare provider to update the information they have on file.
  3. Provider availability: Connections between the Google Health app or Health Connect and your provider may not be supported yet. Check back later as we are constantly adding new providers. For more information, refer to Medical records data isn't syncing.
  4. Age restriction: Remember that syncing medical records is not permitted for users under 18, or the appropriate age in your country. If you try to sync a minor’s records, you’ll need to disconnect medical records before you can start over and set up your own records. Learn how you can Manage & delete medical records data in the Google Health app.
  5. Additional troubleshooting steps for direct healthcare provider sync only:
    1. Retry: Try setting up the connection again:
      1. At the top, tap Connections .
      2. Under “Add connections,” tap Set up medical records and then Set up again.
Medical records data isn’t syncing
  • Expired connection (direct healthcare provider sync only): If you can’t find recent medical records, the connection between your healthcare provider and the Google Health app may have expired. Depending on the provider, your connection may expire frequently, such as after just one day or one week. To check for an expired connection:
    1. Open the Google Health app .
    2. At the top, tap Connections .
    3. If your device is:
      • Android: Tap Medical records.

    4. Search for an expired connection alert.
    5. Tap the alert to fix it or refer to Reconnect a healthcare provider.
  • Health Connect permissions: If you added your medical records with Health Connect, check that Google Health has the necessary read/write permissions in your Health Connect settings. Also, check the permissions of the third-party app you want to sync to make sure it can share data with Health Connect. For more help, check Why isn’t my data from Health Connect updating?
My country or healthcare provider isn’t supported

Syncing medical records is gradually rolling out to new countries and healthcare providers. If it’s not available for your country or provider yet, you can still manually manage your data by uploading or adding records to the Google Health app yourself.

Google Health often uses partners to sync your medical records. We currently support syncing in these regions through our local partners:

Country or region Partners used to sync medical records Description
United States b.well B.well offers 100% of US patient coverage through connections to over 2.4 million providers, more than 330 payers, and 10 HIEs.
My verification with CLEAR failed

Verification with CLEAR can fail for many reasons which includes:

  • You entered an incorrect phone number or email.
  • You tried to verify with CLEAR from an unsupported region.
  • Your government ID is expired.
  • Your information didn’t match trusted sources.
